A Colorful World

The leaves are changing, the temperature is dropping and I am loving every second of this season.  The colors are incredible; I always feel like it's this time of year that nature is most aesthetic.  My sister Lolly and I were taking Sarah Claire on a walk the other day, and seeing "creation" at its finest made me remember one of my favorite things that my brother said when he was little.  He was at the phase in childhood during which coloring books and crayons were usually within arms reach, and he (like most children) spent time turning his scribbles into intentional art.  He was riding in the car with my mom and was looking out of the window at the sky, and when he saw the sunset, she heard him ask from his car seat, "how does He stay in the lines?" I guess he just pictured God with a crayon or paintbrush in hand, creating that sunset in a similar way to Austin's own pictures.  His innocent admiration when he looked at creation was far different from what mine has been in recent years, but I think that having a child has made me look forward to her child-like wonder and all of the ways she will express it.  I hope she will marvel at fall leaves, sunsets, and spring time like Austin did, and I hope I will not view it as naivety, but as an example of the type of fascination that I should have too.

We have tried to take advantage of this great weather, so Lolly and I took Sarah Claire outside with her new oversized headband, and took a few pictures.  Sarah Claire really didn't mind the headband (contrary to what the pictures reveal!) but she wasn't too wild about surrendering her paci!  My camera's memory was full (imagine that!), so I had to go through in between pictures and delete old ones.  I missed some sweet smiles, but we'll try again another time!  We did get one HUGE grin on film- I'll post it below!

She was studying her thumb- she REALLY wants to be able to figure out how to get it into her mouth!

Please note the drool that she had smeared all over her sweet face.

Lolly and her husband are living with us for a month while he completes a rotation at Erlanger , and we are LOVING having them here!

  1. Seriously love your brothers comment about God staying in the lines. I think one of the blessings of having children is watching them marvel at our world. It's an amazing reminder of how great God and his creation are...especially the little ones we hold so dear! Thanks for sharing!
